The government's Clear Skies initiative (www.clear-skies.org, tel: 08702 430 930) aims to help householders and communities "realise the benefits of renewable energy by providing grants and access to sources of advice". Householders can obtain grants of between £500 and £5,000, depending on what technology they install. And it's not just limited to solar panels and wind turbines. Wood-fuelled boiler systems (not log-burning stoves or Agas), for example, which typically cost £4,500 for a 15kWth system, can qualify for a £1,500 grant. Hydro turbines and ground-source heat pumps also qualify for grants.
