I think that it is quite significant to read this. "Lord Ron Oxburgh, Chairman of the UK arm of Shell, called for more determined action by the UK government to limit emissions of CO2 into the atmosphere. Delivering the fourth Greenpeace Business Lecture on 25 January, Lord Oxburgh said that the Shell Group has nothing to fear from the taxation and regulatory changes that are needed to avoid the potentially disastrous consequences of climate change. " Of course there must be suspicions about motives and greenwashing etc, but when someon like this says 'tax us' don't you think we should listen? I suspect that what he hopes for is a 'level playing field' for the development of renewables against continued hydrocarbon exploitative technologies, so that Shell or whoever else are not disadvataged in seeking to develop. But maybe I'm just being optimistic.
