I'm concerned that this study is so biased towards TM -a business empire predicated on a con, in my view: peddling techniques as if they are something special when what is being packaged is essentially a set of techniques that can be 'had' for free or at least far more inexpensively."The study pooled the findings of two previous trials that followed 202 elderly people in the US over 18 years. Some practised transcendental meditation, while others tried different techniques, such as progressive muscle relaxation."
What I think needs mentioning here is that Christian clergy live longer than average [actuarial fact preciptating a pensions crisis fro the Church of England] and studies on prayer show benefits for pray-ees. In other words before attributing it all to TM we should check out other meditation and prayer traditions, I suspect that we'd discover that they all have similar benefits over 'mere' physical relaxation techniques.
