You been gurued?

This is exactly why one of the straplines for my life coaching work is "Life coaching without the hype":
"'For example, the idea that you can be anything you want to be may be totally unrealistic for many people, ... We all have our limitations. But people who are vulnerable and looking for direction may use statements or cliches about achievement to make inappropriate decisions such as leaving their job or abandoning their relationship.'"
I believe in helping people to realistic, sustainable ways forward in life that in 50 years [or whatever] they can be proud of or at least see was helpful.

Of course the other interesting thing about this is how it crosses over into Christian, especially the evangelical/charismatic world. What's the next 'wave' and who's going to drive it. Often it's more about personal charisma than Spiritual gifts. Though that's not to say God can't use personal charisma, it is to say we should be careful just what it is we're responding to. Ditto with leadership in local churches. I have on two occasions followed small-'c' charismatic leaders in churches; I have to say that the legacy is not easy to pick up if one is only averagely small-c charismatic: you realise how much is not replicable and how fragile a lot of loyalty and work actually is. Charismatic-personality leaders in the church should [a] be made aware of their gift and [b] be encouraged [strapped down and not allowed to get up until they agree] to take measures to ensure the continuance of good stuff beyond their tenancy of their positions.

"Spend and tax" not "tax and spend"

I got a response from my MP which got me kind of mad. You'll see why as I reproduce it here. Apologies for the strange changes in types...
