Ends with the apparisal: "complementary currency systems are undoubtedly a great tool for communities without 'normal' financial capital, such as places suffering from economic depression or natural disaster; they can also be a tool for adjusting people's spending behavior. They clearly should have some sort of place alongside normal money. However, it's not clear to me that they are useful beyond niche applications, despite some of their advocates' arguments."
