Tony says it all…

One of the people who had a profound spiritual awakening in the BBC's "The Monastery" has commented sadly on experiences of local churches. Paul Roberts has picked it up and makes a comment I want to "amen" loudly.
Most mainstream church Sunday services seem to be informed by a missiology or an ecclesiology which are their local religious equivalent to a cross between stalinist collectivism, a McDonalds advert and Celebrity Come-Dancing. And huge numbers of us, if we’re really honest, are sick to our back teeth of it. I remember thinking as I heard those words - “this is exactly the reason why we’re spending so much time experimenting with emerging church, alternative worship, new monasticism, and so on.” It’s not inventing gimmickery. It’s just trying to rediscover some vehicle for genuine and serious Christian spirituality and community, yet which also relates to the way we experience real life.
