Having written the last blog entry I then came across this report of a leak at the Thorpe reprocessing plant. It is worth noting, once agiain the cost to the public. "The leak is not a danger to the public but is likely to be a financial disaster for the taxpayer since income from the Thorp plant, calculated to be more than 1m a day, is supposed to pay for the cleanup of redundant nuclear facilities."
Needless to say renewable routes are not so expensive and the sots do not have to be borne by government except in the initial stages while economies of scale build up. Note also the implications for insurance, ie nuke power is uninsurable, hence we the taxpayers bail it out if something goes wrongs and may even suffer the radiological consequences if something Chernobyl-ish happened.
