flying train: London to Glasgow?

Ever since I saw it on Tomorrow's World in the 70's I've loved maglev. So this was a great thought, maglev in the UK as a way to knock aircraft out of the sky [not literally of course!]. But it's a lot of money, would it be done? Well, the Channel tunnel was pretty expensive ...
