Buildings Use Sunlight & Sea Water to Save Energy

Technology Review: High Tech Buildings Use Sunlight, Sea Water to Save Energy: Here's a good news story from the USA.

"the U.S. Green Building Council launched a program to accredit building professionals in environmental design. Interest in the program, called LEED, for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, has skyrocketed. Since 2000, about 19,000 people have been accredited, 9,000 in the last month alone.

About 4 percent of new commercial construction is now completed under LEED guidelines, said Taryn Holowka, a spokeswoman for the Green Building Council."

I felt that these figures are quite encouraging given the short time that is covered.

The whole article is quite an eye-opener about what can be done with a bit of thought and design. The thing to recall, too, is that many of the energy saving become a lower Total Cost of Ownership and so pay for themselves over the life of the buildings, often quite a few times over.

"Spend and tax" not "tax and spend"

I got a response from my MP which got me kind of mad. You'll see why as I reproduce it here. Apologies for the strange changes in types...
