Interesting look at the implications of populations decline [underway in Western Europe and China] without pushing for population growth. As the article says: "Seems to me that environmentalists should be working furiously to show that a country with a declining population can still be competitive economically and provide a high level of social services"
Part of the answer is to allow migration to even up the scores globally, another part is to invest more in making sure that people can work longer [seems mad to me that many people now retiring in the west can look forward to 20 years or more of potentially productive life when the retirement system was conceived it was about 5 years or so]. That's me done for answers but there must be some more and better researched, surely ...
