Job interview
I just got word today that I am being called for interview at the University of Sunderland for the Anglican chaplaincy post there. It's a bit scary going public about something like this but I covet your prayers that the right thing will be done and that it really will all be a discernment process and not just a beauty parade!
Having been hurt by the way that things happened in my last job and having recognised a lot of that hurt was about feeling devalued, I am now feeling ready, willing and able to have a go again. I enjoy doing that work and I still feel a sense of call towards HE chaplaincy type things. My sojourn in Durham has shown me that I really do relish the challenges of working as a 'public Christian' in a secular metropolitan university. However, the devaluation hangover from my last post tells in my trepidation about how the possibility of not been offered the job might feel. When I'm feeling robust then it is relatively easy to see it as discernment, when I'm feeling fragile it tends to feel like rejection.

"Spend and tax" not "tax and spend"
I got a response from my MP which got me kind of mad. You'll see why as I reproduce it here. Apologies for the strange changes in types...

I've been watching the TV series 'Foundation'. I read the books about 50 years ago (I know!) but scarcely now remember anything...

Woohoo - Sunderland (home town boy here).
Prayers on their way from Seattle.
'Preciate it Dave. It seems to be quite a nice city; neverhad much to do with it befroe but it has th elook of a city on the up. However,it kind of look a bit like Bradford too: suffering somewhat by overshodowing by a more bouyant near-neighbour [Newcastle for Sunderland, Leeds for Bradford].
Sure Sunderland's a bit smaller and you've also got Washington right on the border, made out of beer cans and cardboard (where most of my family live now), but Sunderland's a cool place.
Great football team too ;)
I've yet to visit Washington: beer cans and cardboard eh? Made me smile and I don't even know the reality of it yet! The football team is currently at the top of the championship league so they will be promoted back into the premiership next season assuming they don't throw a wobbly in terms of form! ANyway I may not end up there but at least the prospect of doing so, I can see, has its attractions.
Thanks also to Vaughn for the praying.
