[Footprint] Footprint Fundamentals

Hi, Andii has invited me to post the occasional item about our move toward a more sustainable lifestyle. So here goes...

...am I talking merely about the source of our food, or perhaps our source of energy? Maybe what is important is transport? Well, I've named this post 'Footprint Fundamentals' because I'm interested in the whole of our footprint - we can't be diligent in one area and careless in the others. I use the word 'Fundamentals' as I want this first post to outline the broadest considerations.

So what fundamental factors should we be concerned with?
  • justice - are we benefiting from the unfair exploitation of others?
  • environmental sustainability - are we damaging the environment and/or taking too many non-renewable resources from it?
  • social contribution - are we giving of our resources to those more needy than ourselves?
This last point I am most hazy on! However, I feel that we have been given our own lives and that we need to go beyond fairness toward giving.

I will follow up with some posts about these points, expanding on them, before moving on to practical matters.

"Spend and tax" not "tax and spend"

I got a response from my MP which got me kind of mad. You'll see why as I reproduce it here. Apologies for the strange changes in types...
