Lib Dem to be ID card 'martyr'

I hope that this will begin to raise the profile of the campaign even further, soon.
Liberal Democrat president, Simon Hughes, yesterday vowed to go to jail rather than carry the proposed new national ID card.

I favor identity cards. They're a real life saver for persons like me who suffer from severe identity confusion. With an identity card, I would never forget who I am nor would anybody else.

Gary you're welcome to have one; for you it sounds really useful. However the advantages like this in rare situations can be bought by your having a voluntary card and /or other arrangements. That's not a good argument, however, for a compulsory registration of the whole population with all the tools that gives to a regime for moves towards totalitarianism or the potential for criminal activity gaining some very useful tools. Add that to the failure rates which would effectively deprive hundreds of thousands of us a year of the rights of our citizenshiy and you have a situatian where it would be a sledgehammer cracking the nut of identity proof.

"Spend and tax" not "tax and spend"

I got a response from my MP which got me kind of mad. You'll see why as I reproduce it here. Apologies for the strange changes in types...
